;
You get to know me a lot by reading my blog, but here is the short version of what's scattered all over my Boudoir Diary.

The real deal 18 things about me

This is how I sound on YOU TUBE (it makes me cringe a bit)

1. I read comic books and lots' of romance novels, and I try to read a real book every now and then.
2. My first name is Jamie and my middle name is Marlen, Jamie didn't sound sexy enough, so I switched them.
3. Me and my sister have boys names.
4. I am a mom to a cool 8 year old(!) boy from my first marriage. Named Ander, a boy's name as far as I am concerned.
5. I retouch all my pictures- I avoid other people's cameras.
6. I spend more than 14 hours a day in front of a computer- for work (graphic design) and fun.
7. I'm very selective about TV. I can't commit to a long term relationship with a show. Except True Blood, stupid show that it's only during the summer.
8. I have crossed several things out of my to-do list (before I die)
- Went to an Art show in New York where I saw Nigel! (from Top Model) and Annie Lebovits pics.
- A book with my illustrations was published.
- I appeared as an extra in a short film- in my underwear- un-tanned and un-firm.
- I stood there in front of 20 cameras from fellow photographers as a stand in model and managed in at least 20% of the pictures to not look super dorky.
9. I look younger than I really am (yes!)
101. I live with 3, 2 step-dogs.
11. I am a cat person.
12. I have a syndrome called "cant-close-anything-properly" which drives my boyfriend fiance(!) batty.
13. I wish I was cleaning obsessive.
14. I can hook up a video-tv-cable combo since age 8.
15. I am a Leo.

16. I can do PG photography too with Amy at Natural beauty Co-op and I am expanding my kingdom in Mexico with FotografiaBoudoir.com and MiaPiccolina.com

17. I am engaged to "groomsooky" Lindsey Haylow since November 08. He's my second photographer for weddings (only! he wishes to be my boudoir assistant, as if) and life assistant/manager.

18. I am sorta-kinda planning a wedding for 2010-2011 location bf parents backyard. Budget unkown but I'm cheap, I have been to too many weddings to not be a little bitter. Photography taken care off! ( I suck at planning a wedding)

Oh yeah, and I like love taking pictures. Keeps me sane really.

Artist statement

A single photograph can evoke a stunning array of thoughts, feelings, memories and emotions.
But what good is a camera without the eye which sees for it or the hand that guides it?
Marlen James' philosophy towards photography is that the energy of the subject; above all else, is what must be captured.

James' methodology includes a superior understanding of cutting edge digital technology coupled with an instinctive feel for what makes a great photograph.

Marlen James' portrait work is equally impressive.   She can utilize natural lighting and close-ups to create original portraits that tell a story with an editorial quality.   This talented photographer explores the human body along with ambience as motifs to describe the idea of beauty.   With an eye for make up, hair and settings as patterns; James creates portraits which suggest a subtle sexuality.

About the Artist

Marlen James has earned a B.A. in Graphic Design and Photography.

James began her artistic career as an apprentice for oil Artist Javier Cortez in 1994.   She committed to further studies in University and then relocated to Toronto, Ontario (Canada).   It was in Toronto that she became a Graphic Designer for several recognized companies.

In 2000; Marlen James became a studio manager for Glamour Shots where she perfected her use of studio lighting, posing, hair and make up.   James then went on to work alongside several professional photographers such as Davide Green, Harvard Photography and many others.   Currently; she is a freelance photographer and designer exploring her own interpretation of portrait photography: boudoir.
